How have crime rates changed in Atlanta recently?

And how has policing changed over the same few decades?

In the late 1980s, crime rates in Atlanta began a natural downwards trend. Despite decreasing crime rates, the police force has increased in size and budget. While it’s tempting to attribute the city’s 82% reduction in violent crime between 1989 and 2018 to policing efforts, the Government Accountability Office estimates that policing accounts for only 2% of that reduction. If crime is driven by sociological factors, and not police presence, then why are we throwing our money away on APD?
